**Curl Talk With…
And you are? Jocelyn Cash
How long have you been on your Natural Journey? One year on October 1st!
Why did you decide to go Natural? I noticed in between relaxers how fast my hair was growing so I decided not to get them anymore last October. I wanted to see what my natural looked liked and embrace it. For so many years I begged my mother to get a relaxer to have straight hair. Now I wish she never let me go down that road. I love my kinky coily curls.
What is your current regimen and what are your favorite products? Currently I am in between my own regimen and going to salon. For the first three months I went to the salon and got flexi rod sets. Then I wore sew in weaves for about seven months. Now I am learning how to style my hair doing twist out styles. I use Design Essentials shampoo, conditioner and moisturizer when I get me hair done at the salon which is about one to two times a month. When i do my hair at home i use Shea Moisture (moisture retention) Shampoo and conditioner as well as the curl enhancing smoothie for twist outs. I also use Garneir Fructis Curl Shaper Spritz to hold styles and enhance the curl. I also use Smooth n Shine Curl Activator Gel w/ Aloe Vera for edges and also to the hold the curl depending on the style. I plan on purchasing the entire Design Essentials New Natural line because the moisturizer does wonders for my natural hair and was great when my was relaxed to.
What is the best thing about being Natural? I love the versatility! One day I can wear my hair in a coily fro, the next day I can flat iron it, the next I can have curls with a twist out, I can do corn styles with my own hair….the list goes on an on. I also feel like its liberating. I feel free and proud to sport the hair that God gave me.
Any words of encouragement for the newbies? I still consider myself some what of a newbie because it has only been on year. I am still learning new techniques and what products work best for my hair. My words of advice are be patient and make sure you give your hair alot of TLC so that it retains moisture – purchase a satin scarf, bonnet, pillow case etc. And lastly do no give up the fight! One day your hair will be where you want it to be….just give it some time…..and love.
