My haiir story.

*clears throat* ok let me begin by saying ii abused my hair beyond belief.. ii didnt realize how much ii fried and dyed my tresses until AFTER ii started my natural journey ok so lets begin….

-yes that is me on the right with long full curls dangling on my shoulders…the begninnng of my relaxed days…  aww look at my sis & ii 🙂

-the “ii wanna dye my hair” days…smh boy did ii love to switch up the colors. ii actually started dying my hair when ii was 13 with red koolaid. ha.

-and then ii thought ii found the perfect color for me… JET BLACK… my hair was growing, really long actually. but ii began to flat iron it EVERYDAY…to me straight hair was the best hair. and ii knew nothing about a “heat protectant”….

-so my hair started pop pop poppin off in the back…ive never had breakage like that before. and ii was in a state of shock because the back of my hair was.. SEE THROUGH.. you could never see through my hair…because it’s always been thick… so ii had to cut it.

*deep breath* after all that damage and breakage ii decided that ii was going to go natural… it was time for a change. my daughter’s hair gave me that extra push..seeing her hair flourish naturally was like a breath of fresh air. so ii put down the relaxers and picked up some weave! lol… let the transition begin..

-my last relaxer was December 2009 and ii havent looked back since. ii plan to blog a post about my hair regimen at a later date.

ii am SO happy being NAPPY!

how long did it take your hair to grow or how long was it before you started wearing your hair out after the transition?

iim sorry ii didn’t include that type of info within my “hair story” but ii wore sew-ins about about 6 months and mini-chopped in between each installment, so ii’m not quite sure how long my hair was and once ii got tired of spending hundreds of dollars on weave ii began to wear twist outs and braid outs, because the front of my hair was still heat damaged and didn’t have a curl pattern. ii will try to find a pic of my hair from when ii stopped wearing sew-ins. hope this answers your question.

it does thank you!! im transitioning stage right now its only been two months since my last relxer but im excited to see my texture and what not. Would you recommend that people hair their hair braided up during their transitioning period than a sew in considereing your experience?

your welcome, and yes ii think braids are great during the transitioning period, ii actually wore those too. just make sure you keep your hair moisturzied & sealed so your hair doesn’t get dry and begin to break. congrats on making the first step to #teamNatural!, you’ll love it here 🙂

Is there a way that i can transition to natural hair without cutting a lot of my hair off?
